It's that time of year again! Time to start thinking about the Eau Claire Jazz Festival that is. The festival registration is now open for middle school, high school and college big bands, combos and vocal ensembles. The 52nd annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival will be filling the city with music from April 20-21.
Opening the two-day festival on Friday, April 20, are the student competitions that will be taking place across the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire campus. After school group performances wrap up at 4 p.m. on Friday, a New Orleans-styled parade featuring middle school bands will be marching down Barstow Street to kick off the 52nd Street celebration that goes from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. The sixth annual 52nd Street celebration is a re-creation of the historic 52nd Street of New York City, where jazz music thrived. This event is open to all ages with over 15 venues featuring 60+ bands throughout the night in downtown Eau Claire. At 7:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday, the nationally renowned UW-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I will join headliners Bob Mintzer and Bobby Sanabria for performances at the State Theatre.
School group performances and competitions will continue on Saturday, April 21 on the UW-Eau Claire campus. Awards will be given out for middle school and non-competitive bands in the Dakota room Friday afternoon. College awards will be given out in Gartner on Friday as well. To wrap the celebration up Saturday afternoon, the award ceremony for the high school competitive bands will take place in the Ojibwe Ballroom.
With competitions, headliner concerts, clinics and the 52nd Street celebration, the 2018 Eau Claire Jazz Festival will sure be one to remember! To register your school's band and/or ensemble or to find out more information, go to eauclairejazz.com/register/
