Lena Sutter is a versatile sound engineer who has experience working with everything from solo acoustic acts to large classical ensembles to 4 piece punk bands. She graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Performing Arts Technology and a B.S.E in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan in 2017. While studying, Lena worked with faculty and students in the studio at the University of Michigan and interned under Geoff Michael at Big Sky Studio in Ann Arbor, working primarily on the national radio show Acoustic Cafe. Through this she had the opportunity to work with local acts, as well as national touring artists such as Kacey Musgraves and The Accidentals. Lena started her post-college career at Shure Microphones, where she worked as a Digital Signal Processing Engineer developing and tuning signal processing algorithms on products like the MV88+. In addition to her work at UWEC, she now works as a Production Assistant for Bon Iver. Lena is active in encouraging diversity within the audio world, particularly in programs for women in audio. She has previously spoken at the Woman’s Audio Mission conference and presents annually at the University of Michigan’s Girls in Music Technology high school program.
