The 52nd Annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival - This April!
The 52nd annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival approaches fast! On Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st of April, the city of Eau Claire welcomes thousands of jazz enthusiasts from the Midwest and beyond. Professional performers, educators, students, connoisseurs, and dabblers all convene to this very city for two remarkable days filled with world-class jazz education and performances. Both days student ensembles from middle schools, high schools, and colleges in the area perform in a large scale tiered competition, and their performances are free and open to the public. The top scoring high school and college big bands and jazz combos become featured as part of the festival headliner concerts. Similarly, there will be a whole host of clinics and masterclasses given by the quality performers and educators that come to this festival each year. These events are also free and open to the public!
On Friday as the events of the day wind down, the streets of downtown Eau Claire go through a transformation, and over fifty bands and three thousand spectators appear in the streets and venues in town. The bustling night life of 52nd Street is a recreation of the 52nd Street found in New York City, home to the many jazz clubs that hosted the musical giants whose names we all recognize today.
Friday and Saturday both conclude with the headliner concerts held in the Eau Claire State Theatre. Previous years saw the appearances of wonderful performers such as Doc Severinsen, Jimmy Heath, Stephon Harris, Nachito Herrera, and Wycliffe Gordon, among many more. This year, Eau Claire Jazz Inc. welcomes to the stage the great Bob Mintzer and Bobby Sanabria, to be featured and backed by our very own Downbeat Award-winning Jazz I. The festival this year will be an absolute ball. We look forward to seeing you there!
