Bob Mintzer: 2018 Eau Claire Jazz Festival Headliner
Find out more about 2018 Eau Claire Jazz Festival headliner Bob Mintzer and where to catch him perform during the festival!
Saxophonist, educator and composer Bob Mintzer will be joining in on the 2018 Eau Claire Jazz Festival celebrations as a headliner. With performances at the State Theatre on both nights of the festival, there will be plenty of opportunities to hear Mintzer play live. If you can’t catch one of his shows, be sure to stop by his clinic to learn more about Mintzer and his playing style.
Instructing musicians is not something Mintzer only does when putting on clinics and workshops. Mintzer is heavily involved in music education by teaching jazz composition, saxophone and also directing the Thornton Jazz Orchestra at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. Mintzer extends his knowledge to the public even more by writing books about a diverse range of musical topics.
When he isn’t teaching future musicians, Mintzer can be found touring the country with the Yellowjackets, a 13-time Grammy nominated jazz band. The Yellowjackets consists of four band members who equally contribute to the making decisions, arranging and writing. There is no leader in the group so that each member has an equal part in developing the band’s sound and identity. Mintzer also records music and tours with his quartet and big band. On top of playing alongside other musicians, Mintzer travels the country as a soloist and as a conductor when he finds the time.
Mintzer will surely bring his background of both teaching and performing to the 52nd annual Eau Claire Jazz Festival during his clinic and shows. Be sure to get your tickets for the headliner concerts that will be featuring Bob Mintzer and Bobby Sanabria alongside University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Jazz Ensemble I on both Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are not on sale yet, but stay tuned!
