Beginning Jazz Piano

Join nationally recognized composers Michael Sweeney, Kyle Newmaster, Jamey Simmons, Susie Jones and Wayne Senior as they discuss the creative process of composition. A Q&A session with the audience will be included.

Vocal Jazz Workshop
Phil Mattson | 2 p.m. | Schofield Auditorium | UW-Eau Claire Campus
Two-time Grammy nominated pianist, arranger, conductor and teacher, Phil Mattson, will explore the art of vocal jazz and discusses the factors that make artistic ensemble and solo singing possible. Mattson will demonstrate basic vocal and rehearsal techniques for ensembles and soloists. He will engage audience participation and demonstrate with students. This clinic will provide the “how to” steps to help any director incorporate vocal jazz into their music program.
FRIDAY MASTER CLASSES

Kenni Holmen is one of the most active touring and recording musicians from the Twin Cities Area. This saxophonist, name “Best Tenor Sax Player of the Year” by the Twin Cities Reader, will demonstrate and speak on improvising, playing styles, interaction with a rhythm section, solo special effects and more. This is one master class you don’t want to miss.
